Annotation | In palliative care, outcomes cannot be measured using mortality or disability. Rather outcomes need to reflect: the patient's quality of life; quality of dying; the needs of the family; and bereavement outcome. Although none are perfect, many measures have been developed for palliative care, and are reviewed in this document. No single measure is recommended; several are sufficiently tested and could be piloted locally through agreement between purchasers and providers. |
