Understanding the dynamics of life in care homes for older people implications for de-institutionalizing practice | Author(s) | Jan Reed, Valerie Roskell Payton |

Annotation | This paper describes findings from an interview study on the processes of adaptation by older people moving into nursing and residential homes, indicating the importance of the relationships which they develop with each other. Information obtained from staff focus groups indicates that staff have a limited awareness of this. The authors contend that homes have focused on the carer-resident relationship, when individualised care is as much about enhancing residents' lives through residents' groups. |
