AnnotationLimited resources together with an unlimited demand for health care means that decisions have to be made regarding the allocation of resources across competing health interventions. Traditionally, patient involvement in the decision-making process has been minimal, however, this is beginning to change since the introduction of National Health Service (NHS) reforms. This report criticises current techniques, such as opinion polls, for failing to provide purchasers and providers with useful information that can be used in a policy context. Instead, it proposes the use of the technique of conjoint analysis to find out the views and preferences of the community. This analysis involves the respondents making hypothetical judgements or expressing preferences between hypothetical alternatives. (AKM).
