Annotation | The authors follow up their previous cross-sectional study of pre-menopausal women, and examine factors which might be associated with menopausal development. This survey found significant univariate associations between menopausal status and age, age of maternal menopause, alcohol consumption and social class. In proportional odds regression analysis, age, maternal menopause age, alcohol consumption, and smoking were independently associated with menopausal status. These results suggest that there is a strong familial association in menopausal age, and that moderate consumption of alcohol is associated with delayed menopausal development. |
