The 1996 election older voters and implications for policies on aging | Author(s) | Robert H Binstock |
Journal title | The Gerontologist, vol 37, no 1, February 1997 |
Pages | pp 15-19 |
Keywords | Elections ; Social security benefits ; Age groups [elderly] ; Social policy ; Cross national surveys ; United States of America. |
Annotation | Aggregate national exit poll data from the 1996 presidential election suggests that voters aged 60 and over were not influenced by age-related policy issues such as Medicare, any more than younger voters were. This article analyses older people's voting behaviour, and speculates about the post-election outlook for Medicare, social security, and Medicaid. |
