AnnotationThis book describes the work of a three-year study funded by the Scottish Office to develop an instrument - the Tayside Profile for Dementia Planning - which assesses the needs of people with dementia, to provide information about the total range of problems for which services are to be provided. It does this by constructing a profile of people's needs across a range of factors, including: problems with mobility, self-care and continence; need for domestic support; behaviour problems; social contacts of the person with dementia; and the position of carers. The research is intended to serve planners working with dementia, mainly in health and social services. The fieldwork for the project is described, which involved a service-based census of those with dementia, assessment of a sample of those, and processes to test the profile in practice. The concluding chapters consider how the information might be applied, and the ethical issues involved.
