Annotation | This book critically reviews the history of residential care, its current provision and the everyday experience of older residents and those who work with them. The authors ask how far its role has been taken over by developments in nursing home care and sheltered housing, and whether people choose it negatively or as a positive option. They also ask about the social role of residential care, whether the financial aspects have made it into an industry which cannot be dismantled, or whether it can be complemented by domiciliary care, given that most older people want to remain in their own homes. |
