AnnotationThis review of health promotion for the over 55s was commissioned by the HEA and carried out in collaboration with the NHS Centre for Reviews and Dissemination, University of York. It is based on evidence from preventive intervention randomised controlled trials and studies in Stanford, California and North Karelia in Finland, and focuses on the effects of lifestyle modifications in preventing coronary heart disease and stroke. It reviews the effects of medical treatment and non-pharmacological interventions in reducing blood pressure and lowering cholesterol levels, multiple interventions and quasi-experimental studies.
