AnnotationThis is the second of two volumes, which is the first review to cover all available sources of health data. Expert contributors describe and propose explanations for the substantial changes which have taken place in the British population's health between 1841 and 1994 - though it should be noted that this generally means England and Wales. This volume reviews specific major categories of diseases, the health of older people, and changes in health generally in the most recent ten years. Topics covered include: communicable diseases; sexually transmitted diseases including HIV/AIDS; cancers; cardiovascular diseases; neurological diseases including Alzheimer's disease; asthma, bronchitis and pneumonia; musculoskeletal diseases; and accidents. It concludes with chapters on the health and health care of older adults in England and Wales since 1841, and trends and prospects at very high ages.
