AnnotationThis dissertation examines ageism; considers how its economic, political and cultural forms can threaten the personal identities of elders; assesses 'traditional' social work's record of identity work with elders; and examines the potential for developing positive identity work, bearing in mind the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats posed by the NHS and Community Care Act 1990. The author presents a case study, to demonstrate work with an individual to try and address his identity needs in practice.
