AnnotationIn the current climate of concern with problems at the interface of health and social care, it is crucial that those undertaking monitoring and evaluation are able to pay due attention to the outcomes of hospital discharge. In a joint agency study, interviews with 100 older people discharged home, and with 36 'carers', underlined the potential benefits for service delivery and planning of looking beyond recorded levels of user satisfaction. The importance was highlighted of examining the details of individual cases, seeking both user and carer perspectives and understanding the contribution to care of support networks in the community.
