AnnotationThis short report relates to a pilot project with the aim of demonstrating the possibility of supporting older people with dementia living in their own familiar home environment, by providing practical and emotional support to carers, using needs-led assessment founded on the principles of respect, empowerment and partnership. Evaluation by a carers' panel identified gaps including: lack of flexible day care; absence of community respite facilities; absence of independent living or housing-with-care options to rehouse those needing 24 hour support; inadequate home support services; and lack of live-in companions or befriending services.
