Annotation | In this study, the authors investigate the social psychological consequences of retirement, by examining changes in self-esteem and depression over a two-year period in older workers who either had retired, or had continued to work. Self-esteem scores did not change for either group, but depression scores decreased for those who had retired. Looking at differences between those who had retired and those who continued to work, regression analyses revealed that retirement had a positive influence on self-esteem and a negative influence on depression. |
