Journal title | The Gerontologist, vol 36, no 4, August 1996 |
Pages | pp 448-453 |
Keywords | Life span ; Biographies ; Histories ; Statistics ; United States of America. |
Annotation | This article highlights the major descriptive findings of an exploratory, quantitative study of American autobiographies published before 1945. The age-cohort distribution graphs of autobiographers presented demonstrate the predominance of men and women aged 55 and over to this genre. This age group provides an as yet untapped resource for the historical phenomenology of ageing. |
