Annotation | Harmonisation in social surveys concerns concepts which are inputs (interview questions and answer categories) or outputs (analysis variables derived from inputs) or both. Consultations among users of government social statistics in a 1995 publication, 'Harmonised questions for government social surveys', revealed a need for greater comparability of data from different sources - the Labour Force Survey, the Family Expenditure Survey, and the General Household Survey. This new publication sets out the latest versions of questions agreed with government departments sponsoring surveys. Many have already been incorporated in a range of surveys, or will be included from 1997. Also included are interview instructions and definitions of harmonised concepts, which should help users to interpret data more easily. |
