AnnotationThis is a study of the accident experiences of older people, and the attitudes, roles and needs of health professionals in the primary care team. It summarises the methodology, results and conclusions of four national studies commissioned by RoSPA, funded by the Department of Health (DoH), and conducted in collaboration with the Department of General Practice at the University of Birmingham. The studies were: a postal survey on accidents among older people in the UK; general practitioners' attitudes to accident prevention; the role of liaison nurses/health visitors in accident prevention; and the training needs of community nurses and health visitors, and whether they are being met. RoSPA makes recommendations on incorporating accident prevention and safety issues into training programmes for primary care personnel and students.
