AnnotationThis report examines the nature of services provided by dementia day centres and day hospitals - including the role of Edinburgh Healthcare NHS Trust - and the characteristics of users. The author used the Revised Elderly Persons Disability Scale (REPDS) - for want of a more clinically relevant, dementia-focused rating scale - to evaluate services. The findings included that there is an unequal spread of day centres, which are poorly planned and weakly resourced; by contrast, expensive, centralised and restricted day hospitals provided better access to services, including meeting carers' needs.
