Annotation | This book comprises 50 short essays, in which contributors cover dementia from many perspectives, from the academic and philosophical, to practical, therapeutic approaches. A true reflection of the state of the art is the degree of attention given to listening to people with dementia and their carers, and this theme forms the book's largest section. Other themes - and the papers do not necessarily fit into just one - are: policies and services; working together; interventions; buildings, fixtures and fittings; training; younger people with dementia; the media; evaluating dementia services; and sex, death and spirituality. Of particular note are articles on and references to pioneering work done in Australia. The concept of 'personhood' is mentioned in some papers, although no particular definition is offered. |
