AnnotationThis evaluation of the depression subscale of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HAD-D) suggests that although it is sensitive to change in the severity of depression, it may not necessarily be used as an alternative to the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HRDS) or the Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS). However, in certain circumstances, the HAD-D may be a useful adjunct to these observer-rated scales.
