Screening for depression among geriatric inpatients with short versions of the Geriatric Depression Scale | Author(s) | Ajit Shah, Virach Phongsathorn, Celia Bielawska, Cornelius Katona |
Journal title | International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry, vol 11, no 10, October 1996 |
Pages | pp 915-918 |
Keywords | Depression ; Dementia ; In-patients ; Screening. |
Annotation | The performances of shorter versions of the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) are examined. The GDS4 (4 item version) has poor sensitivity and specificity in a dementia subsample. The GDS-15 (15 item version) and GDS-10 (10 item version) may be utilised in screening for depression among continuing care geriatric inpatients, but would require prospective evaluation among acutely ill geriatric inpatients. |
