AnnotationThis survey - which repeats a similar survey carried out in 1991 - was conducted during September 1996 by the Harris Research Centre among two separate groups: people aged 60 and over; and people with a parent aged 60 and over. The summary findings indicate that whilst two-thirds of older people live independently, they feel isolated and have little or no life outside their home. The main reasons for this lifestyle appear to be a combination of fears for their safety, particularly after dark. The research was conducted to investigate the attitudes and perceptions of the potential market and potential influencers toward community alarms. Nearly everyone thought that community alarms were a good idea, and 70% mentioned their potential value for emergencies. The main volumes present detailed tables relating to survey responses.
