Annotation | Quality as the principal criterion for success in general practice is the main theme of this book. It looks at why a practice needs to be aware of the context in which it functions within the National Health Service (NHS), and why and how the concept of quality should be assessed and measured. The key components of management in general practice are discussed: how power is distributed, the role of leadership and teamwork, and how to plan ahead to ensure that the practice has people with the right knowledge and skills. Practitioners and practices are becoming more explicitly accountable for their competence and performance. The authors look at the system of professional self-regulation, and the evolution of certification and accreditation. |
