Nutritional support and functional status in undernourished geriatric patients during hospitalization and 6-month follow-up | Author(s) | D Volkert, S Hübsch, P Oster, G Schlierf |
Journal title | Aging: Clinical and Experimental Research, vol 8, no 6, December 1996 |
Pages | pp 386-395 |
Keywords | Malnutrition ; Diet ; Patients ; Mobility ; Clinical surveys ; Longitudinal surveys. |
Annotation | In this study, patients who were provided with a liquid supplement to their diet in hospital and in the following six months at home had improved functional status, compared to those who did not. The treatment of malnutrition should receive more attention in the daily clinical routine, with nutritional support being part of a more complex intervention programme including exercise and regular medical care. |
