AnnotationThe use of drama as a nightly activity for the cognitively impaired elderly patients at the Sakubara nursing home in Japan began in 1989. Although it was started for pleasure, rather than therapeutic purposes, positive behavioural changes were observed. The activity's therapeutic effects are measured and reported. The skills used in this activity and its cultural background are discussed.
