Annotation | This study reports on 16 out of 37 private nursing homes in Mid Staffordshire, in which a nurse audit facilitator visited the homes to teach staff, and stimulate and assist with audit projects. 138 out of 570 residents were assessed by questionnaire and the short Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-SF). Ten homes made at least one procedural change during the study, and residents' depression levels fell, as satisfaction levels improved significantly on six out of eleven aspects of care studied. It is not clear whether improvements in standards of care are associated with the audit process or the presence of an outside assessor. There is a need for methods of assessment that can be applied to more nursing home residents. |
