Keywords | Blood pressure ; Death rate [statistics] ; Ill health ; Clinical surveys ; New Zealand. |
Annotation | The object of this study of 782 people aged 70 and over in Mosgiel, New Zealand was to determine whether the increased mortality associated with low blood pressure in older people arises because of adverse effects of hypotension or because of confounding variables. Low diastolic but not low systolic blood pressure was associated with increased mortality. The increased mortality of those with low blood pressure is explained by concurrent illness. |
