Annotation | This New Zealand study aimed to determine whether the incidence of hip fracture is greater among those living in institutions (includes residential homes) compared with those living in private homes (rest homes and private hospitals). 58% of hip fractures were sustained by those living in private homes, and 42% by those living in institutions. Risk of fracture decreased with age. The authors recommend hip fracture prevention strategies that focus particularly on individuals within institutions. |
