Annotation | This conference of French pensioners and organisations representing older people discussed four themes. First, the Social Charter and Community political commitment towards basic rights for older people. The second theme, towns and consumers, related to the European Network for home services and the European Agreement for services and home repairs, and implementation of the Opinion of Older People in Society. Theme 3 looked at the new technologies and their applications for older people. Lastly, employment and solidarity looked at topics such as part-time working, needs of disabled people, and making use of people's specialist skills. The work of this conference shows that discussion on the participation by older people in the progress towards European integration must be widened, to cover questions relating to quality of life - which are of concern to all older people. |
