AnnotationThis study evaluates the outcomes of a course for grandparents, involving a sample of grandparents, their children and grandchildren. Class sessions explored the differing experiences between the generations of growing up and raising children. Each generation was administered the Grandparent Strengths and Needs Inventory before and after the course. Participants reported perceptions on six dimensions of grandparent attitudes and behaviours - satisfaction, success, teaching, difficulty, frustration, and information - and changes in grandparents' performance were measured. Grandparents reported significant improvements in their attitudes and behaviour, which were corroborated by their children, and to a lesser degree by the grandchildren. The study demonstrates the benefits of education in helping grandparents adjust to their changing role.
