AnnotationIn this pilot study, social workers of 29 randomly selected nursing homes were asked whether there were any programmes to help staff manage sexuality issues. Social workers perceived staff attitudes toward resident sexuality as 'mixed', with a majority perceived as intolerant or condemning regarding homosexual/lesbian activity. Although only one nursing home had a programme relating specifically to sexuality, half the nursing homes covered sexuality within training programmes. Recommendations are made for development of appropriate training.
