Annotation | In this survey measuring male nursing home residents' personal characteristics, relationship of family and friends, and levels of life satisfaction, what mattered most to them was the "realisation of expectations" for their later life satisfaction. Continuity of respect from the past, and feeling needed were also significant. These findings point to the importance of identifying institutionalised residents' past roles and current values, to help them meet their expectations for later life. Implications for social work practice with institutionalised elders are presented. |
