AnnotationThis study examines the relationship between purposeful activity and life satisfaction of elderly males from five different living settings: adult day care centres, retirement communities, adult homes, nursing homes, and senior centres. Their participation in the study included completion of a modified version of the Elders Interest Activity Scale, the Life Satisfaction Index-Z and a form eliciting basic demographic information. Findings reveal that subjects in the five environments had similar levels of life satisfaction, but that differences were found in the present levels of activity participation. Results indicate a significant positive but weak correlation between purposeful activity and life satisfaction.
