AnnotationA secondary analysis of the US National Nursing Home Survey (NNHS) was conducted to determine probability estimates of therapeutic recreation services by gender. A specification of the logit model for category data was used to express the relationship between participation in therapeutic recreation and selected demographic and functional characteristics of nursing home residents, e.g. age, mental health, physical health and activities of daily living (ADLs). Results reveal differences in the utilisation of therapeutic recreation services by age, gender and ADLs. Participants were more likely to be male, under the age of 74, with limited need for assistance in ADLs.
