Annotation | This is the eighth volume in a series on the broad topic of 'societal impact on ageing', and is the edited proceedings of a conference held at Pennsylvania State University in October 1993, originating from deliberations of a subcommittee of the US Social Science Research Council's Committee on Life Course Perspectives. This volume looks at current ethical and legal issues on how far the individual's rights should be limited in later life. The concept of competence is examined from a legal perspective. Older adults' involvement in health care decision making is considered. Other topics covered include cognitive assessment of competence, guardianship and its alternatives, and enhancing autonomy of older people. |
