Annotation | Snoezelen was developed in Holland in the 1980s as a means of providing a relaxing, leisured sensory stimulating environment for people with often profound learning disabilities. This paper considers its introduction as a treatment or activity in the care of older people who are confused. While there may be some evidence that it may be an effective, life-enhancing activity for such people, the author believes that nurses and other health workers have been too ready to accept Snoezelen, and that it should be exposed to the scrutiny of clinical research. |
