Annotation | An analysis of households moving into and out of social housing confirms that the social and economic base of the sector is narrowing. Households new to social housing have very different characteristics to those leaving. The rate of movement within the sector has increased while the sector itself is becoming smaller. Roger Burrows' report on this research at the Centre for Housing Policy, University of York - 'Contemporary patterns of residential mobility in relation to social housing in England' - concludes that the process of residualisation of the publicly-rented sector makes it harder to sustain stable communities. |
