Annotation | This study, carried out with the support of the European Commission (Task Force for Human Resources, Education, Training and Youth, and DG-V Employment, Working Relations and Social Affairs) formed part of a project for the [1993 European] International Year of the Elderly and Solidarity between Generations, and is concerned with the education of adults. It is a study of projects undertaken in the 12 Member States of the European Union on the theme of an active role for adults in the education system generally, demonstrating that older people's knowledge and experience can be put to good use in meeting the educational needs of young and old alike. Case studies cover health, work, education, culture, social exclusion, self help, empowerment, and training - including an AIDS/HIV project in Lewisham, the University of the Third Age (U3A), and the Job Lynx Project. The video takes a brief look at older people in action in eighteen existing schemes, some of which are also described in the book. |
