AnnotationFolkloristics (also known as folklore studies or folklore research) is the discipline devoted to the identification, documentation, characterisation and analysis of traditional expressive forms, processes and behaviours. In this comprehensive study, the authors describe folklore's pervasiveness, including its uses in literature, films, television, cartoons, comic strips, and advertising. They illustrate four perspectives - folklore as artefact, describable and transmissible entity, culture, and behaviour - through myths, legends, ballads, jokes, riddles, traditional foods, festivals and healing ceremonies. Examples come from diverse cultures, occupational groups, religious communities, children, women and gay men.
