AnnotationThe general background to this study is the growing interest and concern in the provision of care and support for increasing numbers of older people in the United Kingdom. By focusing on the perspective of the older person and articulating their views, this study aimed to explore the process of moving into the care home, examine the way in which older people make sense of and respond to this life change, and consider the initial decision making and preparation period. Findings from data on longer term processes of settling in and adjusting to life in a care home are presented. The report concludes with a discussion of the implications for policy, in terms of decision-making and care practice.
