Annotation | Dementia may only become apparent to a general practitioner (GP) when revealed in a crisis precipitated by the absence of a usual carer or by onset of another illness - although symptoms may have been present for a long time. This paper reviews the reasons for delays in diagnosis of dementia in primary care, and proposes an agenda for development of primary care services for dementia sufferers and their carers that may avoid crises or at least allow appropriate responses to them. |
