AnnotationThe British Crime Survey (BCS) is a large household survey of people's experiences and perceptions of crime in England and Wales, and provides an index of crime which can be compared to offences reported by the police. The themes covered in this survey include the extent of crime, reporting to the police, violent crime, burglary, and fear of crime. Older people were infrequent victims of violent crime, although 10% involved those aged 60 and over. Older people are also perceived as being most fearful of crime: they said they felt much less safe on the streets at night.
