Annotation | The aim of this report is to stimulate debate on how the code of practice 'A better home life' can be embraced by the caring community to meet the changing community care needs for older people into the 21st century. The edited contributions are based on a conference held at the Centre for Policy on Ageing on 18 June 1996, and explore the issues facing those involved in providing or purchasing care. Topics covered include the level of quality of care older people should expect when they go into care; the role of inspection in relation to maintaining standards; social services departments' responsibilities as purchasers of care; the relationship between quality and costs; and how society should pay for the continuing care of older people. The final section consists of extracts from a discussion by experts, including two MPs, giving their insights into development of care. |
