AnnotationThis project - which was supported by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) - aims to examine local authority procedures for assessment of housing need and the means by which disabled people's housing needs are met. It also evaluates the impact of disabled people's organisations on housing policy and planning at a local level; and identifies specific areas of concern and help to initiate and develop action plans. The report concludes that it must be recognised that disabled people want and demand accessible, adaptable and affordable housing to rent or to buy. Disabled people also want and need anti-discrimination legislation with provisions targeted at disabling aspects of the environment and buildings. However, this will not be enough to combat present segregative housing policies and practices.
