Annotation | Ethnographic observations and interviews with female residents of a new Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) revealed the patterns of friendship development experiences by older women. Qualitative analyses identified various phases of friendship development. Marital status was a major factor in selection of friends in this setting. Styles and strategies of developing friendships varied considerably. Although most women successfully formed new friendships in this setting, certain subgroups seemed at risk of social isolation. |
