AnnotationThe purpose of the Training Rural Alzheimer's Networking Services for Education and Referral (TRANSFER) programme was to train established health care and social services providers in rural communities to be able to more readily detect the presence of cognitive disorders and offer appropriate care options utilizing a three-phase 'train-the-trainer' model. Curriculum and training materials were developed. Programme evaluation included pre- and post-test of participants' knowledge, attitudes and clinical skills, all of which improved. The 'train-the-trainer' model can be an effective and efficient method for training with rural practitioners, as in this instance in West Virginia.
