Annotation | This study systematically assessed American school educational materials in a range of subjects. Content analysis indicated that the textbooks contain both sins of commission and omission in regard to ageing-related information. Instances of false or misleading information and negative portrayals of ageing and older people in written texts and illustrations were identified, with widespread inattention to the aged and age-related topics. Just as textbook authors and publishers have been responsive to concerns about race, ethnicity and gender, they need to be more sensitive to ageing related issues. |
