AnnotationVery little has been written specifically on financial abuse in the literature on elder abuse. Financial abuse of older people remains difficult to detect and prosecute, in part, because it is poorly understood and ill-defined. The purpose of this article is to begin the task of specifically identifying older people who have been subjected to abuse. The interaction of these factors, which are analysed to help better identify abuse situations, are: characteristics of the older person that suggest vulnerability to abuse; the nature of the relationship between the suspected wrongdoer and the older person; the outcomes and interests served by the relationship; and the type of influence used by the suspected wrongdoer.
