AnnotationThe research for this survey was conducted by Mike Imms Marketing Planning and Research, whose team used the 'mystery shopper' technique. Funeral directors, chosen at random from the Yellow Pages, were telephoned to obtain accurate information as to the cost of a funeral. Since the previous survey in 1993, total expected costs had risen for burial by 38%, and for cremation by 15%; the Retail Price Index for the same period had risen by 7%. Total average expected costs for burial were £1,523, and for cremation £1,024.
