Annotation | This paper explores some reasons why existing funding mechanisms and the private market are not able to respond effectively to the needs of the very old in their populations. Mixed modes of finance are being tried in different countries, with cost containment being promoted at the expense of integrating health and long-term care services. Experiments in the US and UK offer ways to integrate services and contain costs. |
