Annotation | This study investigates the level of employer support received by 41 nursing home nurses attending a seminar, and the difficulties they face in continuing their professional development. The nurses stated that patient dependency and workload had increased, and their training needs had risen. Most of the nurses received no employer support, found it difficult to access relevant professional education, and anticipated difficulties in meeting PREP (Post-Registration Education and Practice) requirements. This report discusses implications of such difficulties for recruitment, retention and quality of care. It recommends further research, government action to encourage links between universities and nursing homes, and funding of PREP. |
